“Backbeating Sounds” is a development group for World Music based in Aberystwyth, Wales. Our aim is to introduce new forms of World Music in Mid-Wales as well as cultivate some of the already established genres.
With our projects we try to merge the traditional and folk elements of international music with the contemporary pop/rock & club/dance music scene.
The programme of Backbeating Sounds includes Live Music events that feature a combination of upcoming and well established professional musicians from the UK and Europe. In addition to the live music events, we organise a series of DJ music events with local and guest DJs.
In our effort to popularize new types of music with strong cultural elements we try to make our projects relevant to as many segments of the community as possible. Our events can be “open-air”, take place in community centres or night clubs and draw their audience from a wide range of sections of the community.
At the moment the group mainly focuses on two areas of the World Music scene:
Reggae, Ska & Dub: a well established music scene in the UK for at least three decades. Our events under this project compile variations of the Reggae music as it appears in different continents.
Gypsy, Klezmer & Balkan Beats: a very new music scene in the UK that merges the traditional and Roma music from Middle East, the Balkans, Eastern Europe & Mediterranean with contemporary dance beats. This scene is marked with the breakthrough of traditional and folk bands in the European Night Clubs. It can take any possible form; from purely original format to its mix with underground electronic beats...
